Time selects Lin Ostrom --- very well deserved recognition.
See the discussion and links at Mercatus's website.
Also see my appreciation of her work at The Freeman.
Paul Dragos Aligica and I have jointly and separately written several essays detailing Lin (and Vincent's) contributions to political economy and social science. My Public Choice discussion of her work can be found here. Our New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics essay on Lin is online.
And, most importantly, don't forget our book, Challenging Institutional Analysis of Development: The Bloomington School (Routledge, 2009).
Congratulations to Lin for this recognition, and to Time for being wise enough to make the selection.
When Lin Ostrom won the Nobel in 2009, I was proud, and my (remedial) algebra teacher was thrilled that the honor finally went to a woman.

Pete- I'm just curious what you thought about the description? I'm not very familiar with her work but I was surprised to see her work described as calling for collective action.

She is a theorist of collective action -- see her presidential address to the APSA -- "A Behavioral Approach to the Rational Choice Theory of Collective Action." Lin Ostrom is a collective action theorist in the same way that James Buchanan is, or as Mancur Olson was.

Well deserved notice by Time, and she has indeed been very influential on a lot of peoples' thinking about these matters.

I'd say she's a theorist of social action. There's a huge difference between that and collective action.

...and don't forget Walter Block's review of Ostrom's book:
