Larry White, the man whose Free Banking in Britain put the idea of "free banking" back into intellectual circulation almost 25 years ago, has a new Cato Daily Podcast and Briefing Paper defending the gold standard against a variety of criticisms raised in the scholarly and popular literature. The Briefing Paper is an excellent and concise piece of intellectual ammunition, highlighted by Larry's characteristically clear writing and a boatload of great citations, both theoretical and historical, to follow up on for those new to these debates.
It's also good to see Larry back in action after some recent health problems.
I was fortuntate enough to take Dr. White's classes last semester at UMSL and can speak to the truth of his vast stock of "intellecutal ammunition". He speaks on monetary issues with an authority that one can only admire. However, with that being said, I must say that I do miss the old Larry White --- the Larry who wasn't afraid to debate methodology with Ludwig Lachmann!

Good indeed to see him back in action.
It is a joy working with Larry on EJW. Sometimes he's a little slow to respond (even prior to health issues), but invariably his feedback and editorial comments are superb. I look forward to the podcast.

From Intellectually Incorrect:
Sincerest thanks to Janice Allen and Dissent School, and, Larry White, who opened my mind by kindness. I might even try that someday.

The most entertaining proponent of the Gold Standard is most likely Mencius Moldbug:
